The Royal Deck Tea Room on board of the Royal Yacht Britannia

Afternoon Tea on Board of the Royal Yacht Britannia

It is a highlight of any visit to Edinburgh: a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is moored at the Ocean Terminal in Leith. It is even better to have afternoon tea on board of the Royal Yacht Britannia. Let me share my experience here.

The Royal Yacht Britannia: Some Facts

For more than 40 years, the royal family traveled the world’s oceans on this floating palace. With its majestic appearance and exquisite interior decoration, the Royal Yacht Britannia is a true treasure of British history.

The Britannia has witnessed numerous historic events and served as an exclusive retreat for Queen Elizabeth II and her family. From royal weddings to important statesmanlike meetings, the Britannia has always been at the center of the action.

Scotland’s best Attraction

Today, visitors have the unique opportunity to tour this impressive ship in Edinburgh, Scotland, and immerse themselves in the royal family’s past. Many people have made use of this unique opportunity.  For the twelfth time in a row, the Royal Yacht Britannia has been rated Scotland’s best attraction by VisitScotland.

Feel the Magic

I didn’t want to miss out on this unique experience either. As soon as you step on board, you are greeted with a fascinating collection of royal artifacts, photographs and stories. It feels a bit like being part of the royal household as you explore the sumptuous drawing rooms, royal bedchambers and luxurious dining rooms.

Although the Britannia has left its royal cruising days behind, you can still feel the magic and fascination of this historic ship. Your visit is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into royal history and experience the luxurious life of the royal family.

The elegant Royal Deck Tea Room

The absolute highlight of my visit was being able to take a seat in the elegant Royal Deck Tea Room. There I enjoyed some tea with scones and clotted cream – including a panoramic view of the water.  Of course, the extensive menu also offered something for the larger appetite. From traditional British dishes to international specialties, there is something for every taste. The service was excellent and unobtrusive, just as you would expect. As there was no rush, you could enjoy the atmosphere in peace and quiet and soak up everything.

Be a Princess for a Day

In conclusion, it is a truly royal experience to have tea on the same ship where kings and emperors once dined – at very reasonable prices!

Be a princess for once! On the Tea Deck of the Royal Yacht Britannia, this dream comes true!
